Imo Businesswoman Arrested For Brutal Assault On 6-Year-Old Maid

THE Imo State Police Command has arrested 38-year-old businesswoman Juliet Igwe for allegedly torturing her six-year-old maid, Onyinyechi, in a violent assault that left the child with severe injuries. Igwe reportedly burned the girl’s private parts with candle flame, poured hot water on her hands—causing the skin to peel—and used candle wax to scald other parts of her body.
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye, who paraded the suspect at the command headquarters in Owerri, described the attack as “despicable and totally unacceptable.” He said operatives of the Ideato North Division acted swiftly after receiving intelligence about the abuse.
Okoye added that Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma has ordered a thorough investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department, with instructions to charge Igwe to court upon its conclusion.
He also commended journalist and humanitarian advocate Chidiebube Okeoma, president of Stand for Humanity Foundation, for taking responsibility for the child’s medical care and welfare.
Speaking to journalists, Igwe admitted inflicting the injuries but claimed she did not know the harm would be severe. She alleged that the child stole meat from her pot and said she “only wanted to correct her.”
The child remains under medical care as investigations continue.
