Two Ekiti Queens Players Selected for 2025 African Women’s Youth Handball Championship

THE continental tournament will take place in Oran, Algeria, from September 14 to 21, 2025.
Ogunsakin noted that the players were chosen because of their exceptional skills and strong performances in recent national competitions.
Preparation and Team Readiness
According to Ogunsakin, Nigeria’s U-18 Women’s Handball Team has completed intensive training and camping sessions in Lagos ahead of the event.
He added that the championship will also serve as qualifiers for the 2026 Women’s Youth World Handball Championship and the IHF Women’s Intercontinental Phase.
“The players have trained hard and are ready to give their best,” he said.
Departure and Group Stage Fixtures
The Nigeria U-18 team is expected to depart the country today for Algeria.
They will compete in Group A, alongside Angola, Tunisia, Kenya, Benin Republic, and Madagascar.
Ogunsakin expressed optimism that the team will perform well and bring pride to the nation.
“We believe this group of players has the determination and talent to make Nigeria proud,” he added.
Inspiring the Next Generation
The selection of Phoebe and Veronica has been described as a major boost for Ekiti State sports development.
It also highlights the growing success of grassroots handball programs across Nigeria.
