GREEN Springs School emerged the star performer at the Chess and Life International School Teams Chess Championship, held on Saturday at Bowine International School, Lagos, with Esdras Adebayo clinching gold after winning all five rounds.
Adebayo’s teammates, Chinino Nwagwu and another Green Springs player, secured silver and bronze, sealing a clean sweep for the school.
In other categories, Iyinoluwa Idowu of Pottersland School won gold in the Focus Master category, while Muintaz Adelabu of Lead Forte topped the Tiger category. Green Springs continued its dominance with Nokeem Abdurojeem and Samuel Oni both taking gold in the Panda and Faster Finger categories, respectively.
Adebayo, expressing pride in his victory, said, “It feels great to win for my school. This motivates me to work harder and compete internationally.”
Tournament Director Collins Rockson said the competition aims to use chess as a tool for intellectual and life development. “We call it Chess and Life because we want children to apply the lessons from chess to real-life challenges,” he said, calling for more sponsorship to sustain the initiative.
Bowine International School’s Deputy Head, Abimbola Olatoye, commended the organisers for promoting problem-solving and holistic learning among children.
