Four Migrants Die As Boat Capsizes Off Lesbos Amid Rough Seas

By ANDERSON (ANDY) CLIFF
AT least four migrants have died after their boat capsized near the Greek island of Lesbos amid strong winds, Greek authorities said on Thursday.
According to public broadcaster ERT, the coastguard rescued seven survivors, all believed to be men from Sudan, while a search continues for more missing passengers. The total number of people on board remains unclear.
The accident occurred in rough weather conditions that hampered rescue efforts, with several coastguard vessels, a helicopter, and search teams combing both sea and shorelines.
Lesbos, located close to Turkey’s western coast, remains one of the main entry points for migrants attempting the perilous crossing to Europe.
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) reports that more than 30,000 refugees and migrants have reached Greece across the Mediterranean so far this year, most departing from Turkey or Libya despite the high risk of fatal shipwrecks.
