Fixture Congestion Hits Pyramids, Juric Targets Win In Uyo

Juric Admits Pyramids’ Challenges Ahead of Rivers United Clash
FC Pyramids head coach, Kryzstov Juric, has acknowledged the difficulties facing his team ahead of their CAF Champions League Matchday 5 clash against Rivers United, but insists the Egyptian champions are fully focused on securing victory in Uyo.
The CAF Champions League holders will face Rivers United on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, with Pyramids already assured of a place in the knockout stage. However, Juric stressed that the club remains determined to finish top of their group.
Fixture Congestion Taking Its Toll
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Juric admitted that an intense run of fixtures has affected his squad physically.
“Pyramids FC is suffering greatly from fixture congestion,” the coach said. “We have played several domestic and continental matches in a very short period, including long trips to Morocco and Nigeria, as well as extensive travel within Egypt. This is negatively impacting the players.”
The coach explained that the demanding schedule has limited recovery time and increased the risk of fatigue-related injuries.
Injuries Force Squad Rotation
Juric also revealed that Pyramids travelled to Nigeria with a depleted squad, as injuries and the need to rest key players have reduced his options.
“The team arrived in Nigeria with a large number of absences due to injuries or rest,” he said. “Despite this, our objective remains to win the match.”
He added that the fixture provides an opportunity to assess fringe players and integrate new signings into the team.
“It’s a chance for players who haven’t featured much recently, as well as the new signings, to show their quality and prepare everyone for the upcoming matches,” Juric noted.
Top Spot Still the Target
Despite already qualifying for the next round, Juric stressed that the clash with Rivers United remains crucial.
“This match is of great importance to us because we are competing for first place in the group,” he said. “For the African champions, every match must be played to win, whether at home or away.”
The CAF Champions League encounter kicks off on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
