FirstBank Unveils Inclusive Banking For Visually & Physically Challenged Customers
By OBIOMA TORI
FIRSTBANK has announced plans to roll out tailored financial services for blind, partially sighted, and physically challenged customers across its branches and subsidiaries.
The initiative, part of the bank’s financial inclusion and diversity drive, will make transaction documents available in braille, audio, large print, and digital formats. ATMs will be upgraded with voice prompts and high-contrast screens, while debit cards will feature tactile motifs and braille inscriptions for easy recognition.
According to Patrick Akhidenor, the bank’s Chief Risk Officer and Chairman of the Sustainability Committee, the goal is to enable customers with disabilities to “manage their accounts independently and securely.”
The programme aligns with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s financial inclusion strategy and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
By embedding accessibility into its operations, FirstBank says it aims to set a new standard for inclusive banking in Nigeria and beyond.
