FG Sets Public Holidays For Yuletide, New Year

THE Federal Government has approved 25 and 26 December 2025 and 1 January 2026 as public holidays to commemorate Christmas, Boxing Day and the New Year celebrations.
Making the announcement on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, said the holidays were declared to enable Nigerians celebrate the festive season in a peaceful and reflective atmosphere.
The minister urged Christians across the country to reflect on the enduring values of love, peace, humility and sacrifice associated with the birth of Jesus Christ, stressing their importance to national harmony and tolerance.
He also called on all Nigerians, irrespective of faith or ethnicity, to use the festive season to pray for peace, security and national development, while supporting government efforts at building a united and prosperous nation.
Tunji-Ojo further enjoined citizens to remain law-abiding, security-conscious and moderate in their celebrations, as he extended Christmas and New Year greetings to Nigerians at home and abroad.
