FG Plans 500 CNG Stations Nationwide In Three Years

THE federal government has announced plans to establish 500 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations across Nigeria over the next three years, aiming to reduce reliance on petrol and promote cleaner, more affordable fuels.
Oluwole Adama, Executive Director of the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), said the initiative follows discussions with Chinese manufacturer Endurance Group and will involve a government-backed special purpose vehicle (SPV) supported by MDGIF, the Bank of Industry, Endurance Group, and Séquor Investment Partners.
The SPV, named Compressed Natural Gas Auto Mobility Infrastructure Company (CAM InfraCo), will deploy the stations, develop LCNG gas supply infrastructure, and provide CNG and LNG transport trucks, creating a “virtual pipeline” across all states.
Oluwatoyin Subair, senior special adviser to the president, noted the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to strengthen energy security, reduce petrol and diesel dependence, and generate new jobs in the gas sector.
Endurance Group CEO Eric Lin added that the SPV will lease CNG equipment to certified operators, ensuring a reliable nationwide gas supply and a full CNG refuelling, maintenance, and logistics ecosystem.
