THE Federal Government has launched the 2025–2026 National Agricultural Growth Scheme, Agro-Pocket (NAGS-AP), aiming to support 80,000 registered farmers and generate an estimated ₦160 billion in output.
At the flag-off in Maiduguri, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, said Borno received 3,000 of the 40,000 hectares earmarked nationwide for dry-season wheat farming, covering 6,000 farmers. He noted that NAGS-AP remains a key platform for boosting smallholder farmers, recalling that over 386,000 farmers benefited in the last two cycles, producing wheat valued at more than ₦1.36 trillion.
Kyari said the scheme aligns with the national food security agenda following the 2023 state of emergency and now spans 16 states.
Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, commended the initiative, highlighting improved irrigation, mechanisation access, and recovery support through the Presidential Agricultural Insurance Scheme and humanitarian partners, which he said are strengthening food production and aiding the state’s recovery.
