FG Declares Public Holiday For Eid-ul-Mawlid Celebration
THE Federal Government has declared Friday 5 September 2025 as a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Mawlid, marking the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
Declaring the holiday on behalf of the government, Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to the Muslim community in Nigeria and around the world.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, urged the Muslim faithful to reflect on the virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The minister said, “I wish to felicitate with the Muslim Ummah as they celebrate this significant occasion.
“These values remain essential in building a united, prosperous, and progressive nation.”
He also encouraged all Nigerians, irrespective of their religious beliefs, to use this occasion to pray for the peace, security, and stability of the country.
“Let us support the Federal Government’s efforts in fostering national harmony and sustainable development.
“The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” the Minister stated.
Wishing all Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration, Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and supportive of government policies aimed at ensuring the collective well-being of all Nigerians.
