Falz Demands Answers As Kidnap Victims Return Without Clarity

NIGERIAN rapper and activist Folarin “Falz” Falana has urged Nigerians to demand accountability from their elected officials following the release of kidnap victims in Kwara and Niger States.
In a video posted on X, Falz acknowledged the return of 38 abducted worshippers in Kwara and 50 of the more than 300 kidnapped students in Niger but criticised the government’s silence on how the victims were freed.
He questioned why officials failed to disclose whether ransom was paid, if any kidnappers were arrested, or what security operations were carried out. “This does not cut it. It is just not enough,” he said.
The musician also condemned what he called passive social-media outrage, urging citizens to move beyond hashtags and begin directly pressuring lawmakers. He said some Nigerians had contacted him about a planned peaceful protest, but added that immediate action could start with coordinated calls, emails and messages to senators and representatives.
Falz shared a sample message for constituents, asking lawmakers to demand a public hearing on Nigeria’s counter-terrorism strategy, concerns about an under-equipped military and measures to protect citizens.
Authorities announced on Sunday that the 38 worshippers abducted in Kwara had regained freedom after days in captivity, while 50 students from St. Mary’s Private Catholic School in Niger State reportedly escaped and reunited with their families.
However, security agencies have yet to explain how the releases and escapes happened or whether any suspects were apprehended—questions that Falz says Nigerians must now insist on getting answered.
