Falconets Face Ghana In WAFU B U20 Opener As Tournament Adopts New Format

NIGERIA’S Falconets will open their title campaign against defending champions Ghana in the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Girls’ Cup, which kicks off on Friday 7 November, in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
In a major shift, this year’s edition will adopt a round-robin format, replacing the traditional group-and-knockout system. Each team will play one another, with the top side after all fixtures crowned champion.
Hosts Benin will face Ghana in the tournament opener on 7 November, while Nigeria take on Ghana a day later before meeting the hosts on 9 November. The Falconets will again play Ghana on 11 November and wrap up against Benin on 12 November.
Coach Moses Aduku’s side, featuring both seasoned and emerging players, will look to reaffirm Nigeria’s dominance in women’s youth football. The new format is aimed at offering players more match time and fostering long-term development across the sub-region.
Beyond the trophy chase, the Nigeria-Ghana clash remains the tournament’s biggest draw — a fierce rivalry set to ignite another chapter in West African women’s football.
