Nigeria’s Falconets Advance With Aggregate Win Over Senegal
NIGERIA’S Falconets have confirmed their spot in the final round of African qualifiers for this year’s FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup after defeating Senegal 2-1 in Diamniadio on Saturday. Combined with a 1-0 first-leg win in Abeokuta, the team secured a 3-1 aggregate score.
The victory was powered by two well-timed goals from Kindness Ifeanyi and Precious Oscar. Ifeanyi opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a header off a corner from Tumininu Adeshina, mirroring her first-leg goal. Oscar extended the lead in the second half, also from a corner kick delivered by Adeshina, giving Nigeria a comfortable advantage.
Despite a late goal from Senegal, the Falconets held firm to seal the win. The team’s composure, effective set-piece strategies, and disciplined defense ensured that Senegal’s late push did not alter the outcome.
Final Round Awaiting: Malawi
Malawi, who advanced past Guinea Bissau, will meet Nigeria in the decisive final round to determine one of Africa’s four representatives at the U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland this September.
The Falconets’ consistent performance across both legs highlights their readiness and tactical maturity. Coach-led preparation and standout displays from players like Ifeanyi and Oscar position Nigeria as strong contenders to secure a place in the global tournament.
With Africa’s final slots at stake, the upcoming tie against Malawi promises to be a high-stakes encounter, with the Falconets looking to continue their impressive qualifying run.
