MARKING the International Day of the Girl Child, the Young Communicators Initiative (YCI) has launched the Vision 2035 AI-Athon — a first-of-its-kind digital leadership and speech summit aimed at preparing Nigerian schoolgirls for leadership in an AI-driven future.
Held in Abuja under the theme “Effective LeadHERship in a Digital Age for National Development,” the event brought together young girls from public and private schools to strengthen their leadership, innovation, and technology skills.
British High Commission representative Na’anchin Muhammad said investing in girls is key to Nigeria’s development, while Dr. Chikodi Onyemerela of the British Council praised the summit as a “model for nurturing future female leaders.”
YCI founder Chinenye Priscilla Anaemena explained that participants would receive post-event mentorship to design community projects and leadership frameworks. “If we must move female representation from 4.3% to 20%, we must start with the girl child,” she said.
Other speakers, including FIRS adviser Adesola Oyinloye-Ndu and Heir Women Hub’s Anuli Aniebo, urged girls to build confidence, embrace digital literacy, and lead with resilience.
For participants like Oluwaoloni Gbadamosi and Aisha Sadiq Yari, the summit was an inspiration to dream bigger and innovate through AI.
The Vision 2035 AI-Athon, supported by the FCT Secondary Education Board and UBEC, aims to expand nationwide — shaping a generation of digitally empowered female leaders ready to drive Nigeria’s future.
