NIGERIAN leaders used the 2025 Service of Nine Lessons and Carols hosted by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to call for unity, compassion and selfless leadership amid the country’s economic and social challenges.
Held at the State House and themed “Emmanuel: God With Us,” the event brought together former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Head of State Yakubu Gowon, top government officials and members of the diplomatic and religious communities.
Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Oliver Aba, in his sermon, reminded Nigerians that the essence of Christmas lies in God’s closeness to humanity. He urged citizens and leaders alike to translate faith into action by extending support to the vulnerable and working together to heal divisions in the country.
The service featured carefully selected scripture readings tracing the story of Christ’s birth, read by national leaders, interspersed with classical carols performed by the CAN mass choir. Hymns such as Once in Royal David’s City, O Come, All Ye Faithful and Joy to the World underscored the message of hope and renewal.
The celebration concluded with cultural music and a festive finale, reaffirming Christmas as a season of peace, unity and national reflection.
