CAF Prepares Elite Referees for Africa’s Top Club Competitions
IN a bid to boost officiating quality ahead of crucial fixtures, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will hold a five-day intensive training camp for elite referees in Cairo from 4 to 8 March.
The programme comes as the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup enter their knockout stages, with the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals on the horizon. CAF says the training will help referees maintain technical consistency, make accurate decisions under pressure, and manage games effectively.
Referees at the camp will participate in classroom sessions, on-field drills, video reviews of previous matches, and fitness tests. The comprehensive approach is designed to prepare officials for the fast-paced, high-pressure environments that define Africa’s premier club competitions.
“This training underscores CAF’s dedication to improving officiating standards and ensuring fairness throughout our tournaments,” the football governing body stated.
By investing in elite referee development, CAF hopes to reduce errors, enhance consistency, and maintain the integrity of African club football during its most critical stages. The camp also offers referees the opportunity to exchange insights and strategies for handling complex match situations, a move expected to benefit players, coaches, and fans alike.
