EFCC Arraigns Man Over N5.5m Land Fraud In Maiduguri
THE Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned one Mustapha Ibn Mustapha before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court over alleged N5.5 million land fraud.
He was docked on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, on a three-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and criminal conspiracy to the tune of ₦5,555,000.
One of the charges alleged that Mustapha, alongside an accomplice, Mohammed Habib Alkali (alias Shettima), who is currently at large, fraudulently obtained the said sum from Grace Marcel under the pretext of selling her 30 plots of land at Njimtilo, Konduga Local Government Area. Investigations later revealed that the land in question belonged to the Borno State Government, not the defendant.
Mustapha pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Following the plea, defence counsel S.O. Saka requested a trial date and the remand of his client in a correctional facility.
Justice Kumaliya adjourned the matter to September 23, 2025, for hearing and ordered the defendant to be remanded in custody.
According to the EFCC, Mustapha’s ordeal began after he collected money for the disputed plots but failed to deliver, while all efforts by the complainant to recover her funds proved abortive.
