THE Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, has called on the Delta State Government to urgently establish more primary and secondary schools in Asaba to address growing congestion and improve the quality of learning.
The monarch made the call on Tuesday during the official handover ceremony of 200 chairs and desks and 1,000 notebooks donated to Ahabam Primary School, Asaba, by the ASDEV 81 Club of Asaba, USA Chapter.
Speaking at the event, HRM Asagba Azinge commended the ASDEV 81 Club for what he described as a thoughtful and timely intervention in the education sector. He noted that the donation aligned with efforts by the palace to strengthen social infrastructure in the community since his ascension to the throne.
The Asagba explained that Asaba has witnessed rapid population growth due to its peaceful environment and increasing influx of businesses and non-indigenes, a development that has placed immense pressure on existing schools. He appealed to the state government to respond by building more schools to decongest old ones and create a more conducive learning environment.
The traditional ruler also announced that the Asaba community, under his leadership, would on Saturday 17 January 2026, support 100 pupils and students of Asaba origin with a back-to-school package of ₦50,000 each to encourage their return to school.
Earlier, representatives of the ASDEV 81 Club said the donation was part of their commitment to giving back to the community, while the Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Hon. Kingsley Ashibogwu, disclosed that procurement of about 30,000 chairs and desks for public schools had been concluded.
The ceremony ended with the official unveiling of the donated items by HRM Asagba Prof. Epiphany Azinge.
