Edo Police Ban Fireworks, Warn Of Arrests This Festive Season
By TOSI ORE
THE Edo State Police Command has announced a total ban on the sale and use of fireworks during the yuletide season, warning that violators will be arrested and prosecuted.
Police spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu said the rising use of “bangers” and “knockouts” across the state has become a security concern, noting that the loud explosions can trigger panic, create false alarms, and disrupt public peace at a time when security agencies are on high alert.
Yamu stressed that fireworks are prohibited under existing laws and urged parents to caution their children, while warning traders against stocking the banned items. He added that officers would intensify surveillance to ensure full compliance.
The command assured residents of sustained security throughout the festive period and encouraged the public to report anyone involved in selling or using fireworks, with emergency hotlines available for immediate contact.
