Delta State Opens ICT Hub to Boost Digital Learning
THE Delta State governor in southern Nigeria, Sheriff Oborevwori, has opened a state-of-the-art ICT and Computer-Based Test Hub at Onicha-Olona in the Aniocha North local government area.
Governor Oborevwori described the centre as a milestone in bridging the digital gaps and preparing young people for opportunities in the 21st century.
Oborevwori, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Kingsley Emu, commended the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) for constructing the facility as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The governor said that through the Delta State Ministry of Science and Technology, modern ICT tools and equipment needed at the centre were procured to enhance the functionality of the hub for digital learning.
“Today’s event is remarkable, as it brings a modern communication and learning hub right to the heart of our community. With the establishment of this ICT and CBT centre in Onicha-Olona, our young people no longer need to travel far to access such facilities.
“More than just an infrastructure, this state-of-the-art centre represents a bold step in our commitment to bridge the digital divide, empower our people and prepare the youths with the skills and opportunities to excel in the 21st century,” Oborevwori said.
He expressed gratitude to the former NDIC Board Member, Diana Okonta, for working assiduously to kick off and complete the centre and acknowledged the immediate past governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for approving the first phase of the project.
The governor assured us of his administration’s commitment under the MORE Agenda to create more centres for young people to access for digital literacy, job creation and being self-reliant.
Educational gateway
The majority leader in the Delta State House of Assembly, Emeka Nwaobi, described the centre as a gateway to effective education, innovation and economic growth for Onicha-Olona and Delta State as a whole.
The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Daniel Odigie, said young people would be disposed to learn more about coding, app development, data analytics, artificial intelligence and basic computer literacy since the centre was designed to nurture talent, spark creativity and unlock boundless potential.
The ICT Hub is equipped with 300 workstations to accommodate students and pupils who would be participating in varying computer-based tests.
