THE Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of the Eiye confraternity during a coordinated operation in Aviara community, Isoko South Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Warri, confirming that the suspects were apprehended on Sunday by operatives from the Oleh Police Division.
According to Edafe, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Keme Osuluku, launched the operation after receiving credible intelligence from a community resident who reported a viral video allegedly showing cult-related activities.
“The video, reportedly shared on a WhatsApp group called ‘Real Men’, depicted suspected Eiye members displaying dangerous weapons,” Edafe said.
He explained that the DPO immediately deployed his team to investigate the report, leading to the arrest of one suspect linked to the video. Further investigation resulted in the capture of another suspect believed to be the leader of the Eiye cult group in Aviara.
During a search of the suspects’ residence, police recovered one locally made double-barrel gun, one single-barrel gun, and six live cartridges.
Edafe added that both suspects and the seized exhibits are currently in custody while efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the cult group.
“The Command remains committed to rooting out criminal elements and ensuring peace and security across Delta communities,” Edafe assured.
