Delta Police Enforce Christmas Ban On Fireworks, Warn Of Arrests

By PAULINA NZERUBE
THE Delta State Police Command has imposed a strict ban on the use, sale, and display of fireworks, knockouts, and bangers ahead of the 2025 Christmas celebrations. Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda said the measure aims to ensure public safety during the festive season.
In a statement by Police PRO SP Bright Edafe, the command warned that anyone caught using or selling pyrotechnics will be arrested, prosecuted, and have their goods seized. Parents were urged to caution their children, while retailers were directed to immediately withdraw the items from circulation.
To enforce compliance, the CP ordered senior officers — including the DCP Operations, Area Commanders, DPOs, and Tactical Commanders — to intensify monitoring and take decisive action against violators.
The police noted that fireworks are often exploited by criminals to disguise gunshots and other illicit activities, making the ban a long-standing security measure during the Yuletide.
Residents were encouraged to report any illegal use or sale of fireworks to the nearest police station or through the command’s control room, as authorities work to guarantee a safe and peaceful Christmas across Delta State.
