Delta Moves To Boost Power Supply Through Stakeholder Partnerships

By PAULINA NZERUBE
DELTA State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori says his administration is ready to collaborate with power sector experts to develop infrastructure that will expand electricity generation and distribution across the state.
Speaking at a three-day seminar organised by the Asaba Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ, and represented by Commissioner Charles Aniagwu, the governor described electricity as central to economic growth and said the forum would help government engage stakeholders across the energy value chain.
He commended journalists for supporting the dissemination of government programmes and pledged continuous partnership with the media.
Also speaking, legislator Bridget Anyafulu noted that the state’s newly assented Electricity Law will strengthen efforts to tackle power supply challenges. The Ministry of Works highlighted ongoing plans to build sustainable power infrastructure for Asaba and other communities.
Chairman of the event, Elder Chris Biose, stressed that Nigeria requires at least 100,000MW to meet national needs, underscoring the urgency of major reforms. Guest lecturer Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri called for a shift toward renewable energy to ensure long-term economic stability.
NUJ Chapel Chairman Ifeanyi Olannye urged government at all levels to stop politicising electricity issues, noting that development is impossible without reliable power supply. The event also featured award presentations to notable contributors to public service.
