Delta Govt Stormwater Project Will End Asaba Flooding —Izeze

DELTA State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has assured residents of Asaba that the ongoing stormwater control project will permanently address the flooding challenges in the capital city.
Izeze gave the assurance on Tuesday while inspecting sections of the multi-billion-naira project spanning Summit Road, Nwelih Street, St. Patrick’s College, West-End Mixed Secondary School, and Uche Medua Igeh, all linking to Amilimocha Stream in Oshimili South Local Government Area.
He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for sustaining the state’s development agenda, describing the initiative as a continuation of the Asaba stormwater masterplan.
“Having inspected the work from chainage 0 to 650, I can confidently say the quality is not in doubt. The consulting firm has shown capacity and experience in supervising this critical project,” Izeze said.
The Commissioner explained that the stormwater scheme covers a total of 6,519 metres of drains, with the current phase accounting for about one kilometre. He expressed optimism that the section would be completed and ready for inauguration by December.
“When this stretch is delivered, it will significantly reduce flooding around DBS, Anwai Road, and adjoining streets. Completion of the entire project will fully implement the original stormwater masterplan for Asaba, putting an end to recurrent flooding,” he added.
Izeze maintained that the project is evidence of Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to his promises, noting that both residents and visitors would soon experience the transformation of Asaba into a flood-free city.
