Delta Govt Denies Rift Among Commissioners, Reaffirms Focus On Development
THE Delta State Government has debunked reports of discord within the State Executive Council, insisting that the administration remains united and committed to delivering on its development promises.
Addressing journalists in Asaba, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, described the alleged rift as a fabrication by detractors who could not fault Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s performance.
“Since they cannot attack the governor on performance, they are resorting to falsehood,” Aniagwu said. “There was no quarrel among commissioners, and no one in government has blamed the administration for anything. These stories are baseless and never happened.”
Aniagwu stressed that the government is focused on projects and empowerment programmes designed to cushion economic hardship and expand opportunities for citizens. He highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the RYSA scheme under the Ministry of Youths, the MORE Biz-Up programme, the Women Empowerment Scheme, ICT training, and girl-child support projects.
He also pointed to the recently launched widows’ welfare programme, under which 10,000 beneficiaries are enrolled to receive ₦15,000 monthly stipends alongside health insurance coverage. Each beneficiary was paid ₦45,000 upfront at the take-off of the scheme, representing three months in arrears.
According to Aniagwu, additional empowerment programmes will be unveiled from October as the rains recede, enabling the government to channel more funds into ventures that can strengthen the local economy and boost the state’s GDP.
On infrastructure, he listed major projects such as the ₦59.7 billion Uromi Junction Flyover in Agbor, the ₦39.3 billion Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli, the ₦35 billion Effurun-Sapele Road dualisation, and various road works in Warri, Abraka, and Asaba. He added that school rehabilitation projects are also underway, guided by needs assessments to ensure value for money.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to its MORE Agenda, Aniagwu maintained that Governor Oborevwori’s team would not be distracted by “discordant voices” bent on misleading the public.
