Delta Govt Commends Progress On N50bn Orere Bridge Project
THE Delta State Government has expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the ongoing N50 billion Orere Bridge project in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, gave the commendation on Friday during an inspection tour of the project.
The bridge, being handled by J.U. Obakpor Engineering Company, is expected to link more than 30 communities across Ughelli South and Bomadi local government areas when completed.
Izeze praised the contractor for demonstrating resilience and strict adherence to project specifications despite logistical challenges. He noted that major milestones had already been achieved.
“From both ends of the bridge, about 500 metres of reinforcement and blinding have been completed. We’ve also been assured that in another three weeks, vehicles should be able to drive across the bridge. That gives us confidence that this project is firmly on course,” the commissioner said.
He disclosed that sharp sand required for the construction was being sourced from Kaiama and Bomadi through barges, a process that involved significant effort but had not slowed down the pace of delivery.
According to him, the Orere Bridge project stands as a clear demonstration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to completing inherited projects and fulfilling his promises to the people.
The commissioner also commended the host communities of Orere and Ewu for their cooperation, assuring them that their patience would soon be rewarded.
On his part, the Managing Director of J.U. Obakpor Engineering, Mr. Ricardo Oguma, reaffirmed the company’s determination to deliver the bridge by March 2026, despite the difficult terrain and challenges of material transportation.
