By PAULINA NZERUBE
GOVERNOR Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has pledged full support for the humanitarian initiatives of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), which focus on widows and children of fallen heroes.
He gave the assurance in Asaba while receiving DEPOWA President, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, and her delegation.
Oborevwori praised DEPOWA’s empowerment seminar for widows across Delta, Edo, Anambra, and Enugu, noting its alignment with his administration’s programmes, including the recent empowerment of 10,000 widows in the state.
Mrs. Musa explained that DEPOWA, a coalition of military and police officers’ wives associations, has expanded into humanitarian services. She highlighted the ongoing training for widows and announced the upcoming DEPOWA Future Leadership Academy in Abuja, which will grant automatic scholarships to children of fallen heroes.
She added that the visit formed part of DEPOWA’s national “Thank You Campaign” to honour the sacrifices of Nigeria’s Armed Forces and Police personnel.
