Delta EXCO Approves N42bn For Roads, Flood Control, Power Projects
THE Delta State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved infrastructure projects valued at over ₦42 billion, covering road construction, erosion and flood control, and the expansion of electricity supply across the state.
The approvals were granted at an EXCO meeting presided over by Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as part of ongoing efforts to accelerate development and improve the living standards of residents.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the projects reflect the administration’s commitment to infrastructure-led growth under the MORE Agenda.
Aniagwu, who was joined by the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sunny Ekedayen, and senior aides to the governor, explained that the approvals cover strategic road corridors, flood and erosion control works, and energy projects, particularly in the Udu axis, to support industrial and domestic power needs.
According to him, EXCO approved major works on the Old Lagos–Asaba Road, including Phase Two of the Obior–Ubulu-Uku axis in Aniocha North and Aniocha South Local Government Areas. The council also approved road projects linking Ute-Ogbeje to Ebuenor and Ani-Nwachokor in Ika North East.
He disclosed that some project costs were reviewed upward due to rising market prices, weather-related delays, and earlier funding challenges.
“The council approved the upward review of the Ute-Ogbeje to Otolokpo Road and also approved the construction of Etua-Etiti and Etua-Oliogo internal roads in Ndokwa West to ensure smooth completion,” Aniagwu said.
On flood and erosion control, the commissioner said EXCO approved protective works around the Asaba International Airport to safeguard critical infrastructure. Flood control measures were also approved along Dennis Osadebay Way, from the traffic light to Abraka Road, an area frequently affected by erosion and flooding.
Other projects approved include the completion of internal roads in Otorho-Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area and the construction of Imohwe Street in Ughelli.
On power supply, Aniagwu said EXCO approved the replacement of a faulty 15MVA transformer, the installation of new 300KVA transformers, and the rehabilitation of substations and related equipment to improve electricity supply in Udu and neighbouring communities.
“These interventions are targeted at boosting energy supply, supporting businesses and improving the quality of life of our people,” he said.
The commissioner also confirmed that Governor Oborevwori has signed the ₦1.7 trillion 2026 Appropriation Law, noting that more than 70 per cent of the budget is allocated to capital projects, with strong focus on infrastructure.
He assured that the administration would continue to prioritise development despite the approaching election season, adding that all projects would follow due procurement processes.
Aniagwu expressed confidence that the approved projects would significantly enhance Delta State’s development and thanked residents for their continued support.
