Delta Bets On Berger For Fast-Track Uromi Junction Flyover

By PAULINA NZERUBE
THE Delta State Government has officially kicked off the construction of the Uromi Junction Flyover Bridge in Agbor, a project long promised but only now entering physical execution. Dr. Fred Oghenesivbe, Director-General of the state’s Bureau for Orientation and Communications, confirmed the development to journalists in Asaba on Wednesday.
He revealed that heavy-duty construction machines, including pile-driving rigs and grading equipment, have already arrived at Oloka axis, where the flyover will rise. The contract is being handled by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, reinforcing the state government’s decision to place the project in the hands of a firm with proven experience delivering high-stakes infrastructure across Nigeria.
The DG framed the flyover as a critical economic intervention, noting that Uromi Junction is a major arterial route for interstate trade, transport logistics and commuter circulation, yet suffers from persistent gridlocks that erode man-hours and increase travel costs. According to him, once completed, the flyover will shorten transit time, attract investment into Agbor’s commercial zones, improve urban design, and potentially expand Agbor’s capacity to host large-scale economic activities.
Oghenesivbe praised Governor Oborevwori’s infrastructure agenda, calling him a pragmatic administrator focused on mobility-driven urban growth. He appealed for community support, stressing that public cooperation is now a success variable, particularly in areas such as construction safety, traffic diversions, and material protection.
