Delta Assembly Backs Police, Army, Pushes Stronger Vigilante Oversight
By PAULINA NZERUBE
THE Delta State House of Assembly has urged sustained support for security agencies to boost peace and order in the state.
Chairman of the House Committee on Peace and Security, Dr. Isaac Anwuzia, made the call during an oversight visit to the state Police Command and the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Asaba.
He commended their efforts and announced new measures, including police-led training and supervision of vigilante groups, monthly security reports from councils, and the recently passed Community Security Corps Bill to centralise operations.
Police Commissioner Olufemi Abaniwonda reported recent recoveries of arms and stolen items, while Brig.-Gen. Moronfolu Shonibare assured that the Army was working with other agencies and stakeholders to strengthen security across the state.
