Delta 2023: Two PDP Members Give Reasons Gov. Okowa Should Pick Ijaw Successor
TWO members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State,
Gabriel Mamuzo and Miracle Ifeanyi Ogor, have joined the call for an Ijaw man to succeed Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in 2023.
“If there is anything to talk about, it is the marginalisation of the Ijaw ethnic group in Delta State, despite the unmatched support they gave to Okowa in his quest to rule the state in 2015. The Governor recently created some universities and campuses in the state, without deeming it necessary to give the Ijaw nation anything, despite being the reason he is the Governor of the state for two terms. If Governor Okowa wants to be appreciative of the gestures the Ijaws did for him twice, he should hand over power to them without attaching any condition.
“The Ijaw man is the only person that will go to battle with another tribe without betrayals; they put in their all, including blood and resources in whatever they believe is right. In the 2014 PDP governorship primary election, the Urhobo people ambushed Okowa, with David Edevbie, to make sure Edevbie took over from Uduaghan, same way they wanted Ogboru to succeed Ibori. Whom are they fooling? They have no right to talk about zoning now because they never believed in it.
“In the interest of peace and unity, it will be better for the Delta North people start the next round of the so-called zoning or the South which came second in the first round to start the second round, but not the Urhobos. For he that must come to equity, must come with clean hands. No ethnic group is superior to the other in Delta State, no matter their population; therefore, let no one be intimidated with size or number, because no ethnic group can singlehandedly produce a Governor, without the support of others.
“Delta South and North should politically marry each other to produce the next Governor, if truly they want to savour the seat in this generation. We call on Governor Okowa to be bold and courageous to support this noble idea, not necessarily zoning, as bandied by the Urhobos.
