Deadly Drug Raid Sparks Inferno In Katsina

Anti-Drug Raid Ignites Deadly Backlash
A routine anti-drug operation turned fatal on Saturday in Katsina metropolis after suspected drug peddlers clashed with security operatives, leaving at least three people dead and public assets destroyed.
The confrontation erupted at Koraman Nayalle, Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters, when officers attempted to arrest a suspected dealer identified as Uzairu, popularly called ‘Kuda’, and seized his mobile phone alongside suspected illicit drugs. Sources say Kuda mobilised associates in an attempt to retrieve the confiscated items, triggering a breakdown of order.
Amid the chaos, Kuda was shot and later confirmed dead. The violence escalated, culminating in the death of two more persons, bringing the casualty figure to three. An NSCDC outpost and several motorcycles were torched by an enraged mob, while flames and gunfire sent residents fleeing for safety.
The Katsina Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Buhari Hamisu, confirmed the incident and said the situation had been stabilised. He disclosed that operatives also repelled coordinated attempts by the deceased’s associates to raze additional security and police outposts at Filin Kanada and later at Filin Kanada/Filin Kanada during a follow-up attack on Sunday, dispersing the rioters.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the immediate and remote triggers of the clash. Residents have been urged to remain calm as security forces maintain presence in the area to prevent further unrest.
