Dangote Refinery Assures Nigerians Of Adequate Fuel Supply Amid New Import Tariff
By ESTHER McWILLIS-IKHIDE
AS Nigeria prepares to implement a 15% tariff on imported petrol and diesel, the Dangote Refinery has assured that it produces enough fuel to meet the country’s demand.
Anthony Chiejina, Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, said the refinery loads over 45 million litres of petrol and 25 million litres of diesel daily, exceeding national consumption.
He noted that the refinery is working with regulators and marketers to ensure efficient distribution across the country, stressing that increased local refining is stabilising fuel supply and strengthening the naira.
The new tariff, approved by President Bola Tinubu, aims to boost local refining and prevent imported products from undercutting domestic prices. Implementation begins next month.
The 650,000-barrel-per-day Dangote Refinery, which started petrol production in September 2024, plans to expand to 1.4 million barrels per day, positioning it as the world’s largest refinery.
