At **NewscrackersNG**, we take accuracy seriously. When errors occur or new information emerges, we are committed to correcting the record openly and promptly. This page explains how we handle corrections, clarifications, and story updates.
**How to Request a Correction:**
If you spot an error in any of our articles (factual inaccuracies, misquotes, outdated info, etc.), please let us know. You can:
– **Email us:** corrections@newscrackersng.com
– **Use our Contact Form:** Visit our [Contact Us](https://newscrackersng.com/contact-us/) page and select “Correction request” (if available) or mention the issue in your message.
In your request, please include:
– The title or URL of the article in question.
– A description of the error and what the correct information should be (if you know).
– Any source or evidence for the correct information (if available).
Our editorial team prioritizes correction requests. If a correction is warranted, we implement it as described below.
**Our Corrections Procedure:**
– **Minor Corrections:** Typos, misspellings, or minor factual errors (e.g., a person’s age, a date, a small number) that do not materially affect the story: We will correct the text on the site quietly (without a big announcement), *but* we will add a short italicized note at the bottom of the article noting the change. Example: “*Correction: Oct 15, 2025 – Corrected the spelling of the Minister’s name.*” If the article was widely shared or the error could confuse readers, we may also note the correction at the top for visibility.
– **Major Corrections/Clarifications:** Errors that impact the understanding of the story or significant details (e.g., misidentifying someone, misreporting a key fact) or when an article needs clarification: We will correct the text and add a prominently placed correction note at the top or bottom of the article. Example: “*Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated ____. The correct information is ____. We regret the error.*” The note will explain what was wrong and the correction, with the date. If needed, we may update the headline as well and indicate that change (e.g., “Updated headline for accuracy”).
– **Updates to Developing Stories:** For news stories that develop over time (e.g., an ongoing event or a story where we initially published partial info), we will mark significant updates with a timestamp within the article. Example: “*(Update – 3:30pm): The government has since announced relief measures for affected communities.*” If new information substantially changes the story, we might add **“[UPDATED]”** to the title or put an editor’s note at top summarizing the new info.
– **Article Removal or Retraction:** In very rare cases, if an article is found to be fundamentally flawed or incorrect and cannot be adequately corrected, we may retract it. In such cases, we will replace the content with a notice explaining the removal and reason (e.g., “This article has been retracted because the source was found not to be credible.”). Retractions are a last resort – our preference is always to correct rather than remove.
**Logging Corrections and Updates:**
We maintain an internal log of all corrections made. Major corrections (those that alter the meaning of content or could mislead if uncorrected) are also noted here publicly for transparency. Below is our public Corrections Log of recent significant fixes:
– *15 Oct 2025:* Corrected the minister’s name in **“Flood Wreaks Havoc”** article (it’s *Maruf* Tunji Alausa, not “Marouf”).
– *02 Sept 2025:* Clarified context in **“XYZ Protest”** story that the quoted statistics referred to 2022 data, not 2023.
*(This is a sample of our corrections log. We list recent corrections with dates and a brief description. Older entries are archived internally.)*
For routine news updates, we generally do not list those here (the article itself indicates the updates). This log is focused on corrections of published errors. However, if an “update” is essentially a correction, we will log it as such.
**Commitment to Transparency:**
NewscrackersNG’s credibility rests on acknowledging our mistakes. We do not remove errors quietly or pretend they never happened. Every correction is an opportunity to show readers that we put truth and trust above all. If you have questions about our corrections process or feel an error was not adequately addressed, please reach out to our Managing Editor at editor@newscrackersng.com. We appreciate readers who help us uphold our standards by pointing out issues.
