China, Nigeria Deepen Ties On Women Empowerment Through Film Festival

CHINA and Nigeria have renewed their commitment to promoting gender equality, women’s empowerment, and cultural collaboration through the Chinese Women Film Festival held in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Zhou Hongyou, Minister at the Chinese Embassy, highlighted China’s progress in advancing women’s status, noting that women make up 43% of the nation’s workforce and have been key to its development. He reaffirmed China’s readiness to work with Nigeria to promote women’s all-round development globally.
Chairman of the House Committee on Arts and Culture, Gabriel Zock, praised the initiative as a boost for cultural diplomacy and women’s inclusion in Nigeria’s creative sector, aligning with the country’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan for women and youth empowerment.
Minister of Women’s Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, represented by Ms. Rukkayah, described the festival as a platform celebrating women’s resilience and storytelling power, in line with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The four-day festival, running from 10 to 13 October, features acclaimed Chinese films such as The Dumpling Queen, The Beautiful Life, Song of Spring, and Her Story, showcasing women’s strength, creativity, and leadership.
