THE Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the steady supply of clean and fit currency notes nationwide, urging Nigerians to treat the Naira with respect as a symbol of national pride.
Speaking at the CBN Special Day during the 20th International Trade Fair in Abuja, the Bank’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, appealed to citizens to avoid spraying, mutilating, or counterfeiting banknotes.
She said the CBN’s clean notes initiative requires collective effort, adding that “Our Naira, Our Pride” reflects the shared responsibility of maintaining a strong national currency.
On the economy, Sidi Ali noted that Nigeria’s external reserves had risen to $43.05 billion as of September 11, 2025, up from $40.51 billion in July, reflecting renewed investor confidence and effective economic management under Governor Olayemi Cardoso.
She reiterated the Bank’s focus on stability through strong financial systems, a stable exchange rate, and coordination between monetary and fiscal authorities.
Sidi Ali also highlighted the CBN’s Payment Systems Vision 2028, aimed at expanding financial inclusion, improving payment security, and ensuring faster, more efficient transactions nationwide.
She disclosed that 14 banks have already met recapitalisation requirements, while others remain under monitoring to ensure full compliance.
