THE Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has denied reports suggesting it dismissed claims of a Christian genocide, insisting that targeted attacks on Christians across the country amount to an organised extermination campaign.
In a statement on 21 October, CAN clarified that during the visit of presidential aide Daniel Bwala, its leaders did not describe the killings as a “so-called genocide,” as alleged in a misleading press release.
CAN maintained that Christian communities, especially in the North and Middle Belt, continue to suffer coordinated attacks leading to mass deaths and displacement, stressing that the violence remains largely unpunished.
The association reaffirmed its longstanding position that these assaults represent a sustained campaign against Christians and called for urgent government action to end the killings.
