By SANI BATURE
A fire outbreak was recorded on Saturday at the Abuja headquarters of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), affecting one of the agency’s office blocks. The incident occurred on the fourth floor of the building, according to an official statement released by the service.
The Technical Assistant (Print Media) to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, Sikiru Akinola, confirmed that the fire was promptly detected and swiftly handled by security personnel on duty. Emergency responders, including the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service, were immediately contacted and responded in good time.
With the coordinated intervention of the fire service and other emergency teams, the fire was successfully brought under control before it could spread to other parts of the building. FIRS confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the incident.
Although no lives were lost, several offices on the affected floor sustained damage. An investigation into the cause of the fire has since commenced, with early findings suggesting that an electrical fault may have triggered the outbreak. The agency also disclosed that internal safety measures are currently being reviewed and reinforced to prevent a recurrence.
