THE Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has revealed that Benin, Togo, Niger, and other bilateral electricity customers owe Nigeria $8.53 million for power supplied in the second quarter of 2025.
According to NERC’s Q2 2025 report, the six international customers remitted only $9.01 million out of a $17.54 million invoice issued by the Market Operator, representing a 51.3% remittance rate.
A breakdown showed that Niger’s NIGELEC paid 69.8% of its $3.71 million invoice, while Togo’s CEET made no payment for its $4.31 million bill. Benin’s SBEE, which buys power from Transcorp and Paras Energy, also left part of its invoice unpaid.
NERC added that shortfalls in both international and domestic payments continue to strain the liquidity of Nigeria’s electricity market, affecting grid sustainability and generation company operations.
