DEPUTY Senate President Jibrin Barau has condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s reported threat to launch military action against Nigeria, describing it as unlawful and a violation of international norms.
Speaking at an APC youth forum in Abuja, Barau said Trump’s remarks undermined Nigeria’s sovereignty and called on him to retract the statement and apologise.
“For any leader to threaten a sovereign nation with attack is unacceptable and against international law,” Barau stated, stressing that disputes between nations should be resolved through diplomacy or the United Nations.
He reminded the U.S. of its long-standing friendship with Nigeria and its past support for democracy, saying Trump’s comments were “un-American” and contrary to global peace principles.
Barau urged Nigerians to remain united and confident, reaffirming that Nigeria “is not a colony” and will always defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
