ARMED bandits have abducted at least 73 residents from Buzugu and Rayau villages in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to counterinsurgency outlet Makama Zagazola, the assailants launched midnight raids around 2:45 a.m. on October 18, whisking victims to an unknown location. Efforts are reportedly underway to rescue them and restore calm.
Police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar said he was seeking confirmation from local authorities.
Zamfara remains one of Nigeria’s hardest-hit states by banditry. In recent weeks, dozens have been kidnapped in similar attacks across Bukkuyum, Gusau, and Tsafe LGAs.
A report by SBM Intelligence shows Zamfara recorded the highest number of kidnappings nationwide between July 2024 and June 2025—over 1,200 cases—with ransom payments across Nigeria exceeding ₦2.57 billion.
