NIGERIA claimed a landmark gold medal in table tennis at the ongoing African Youth Games in Angola after defeating favourites Egypt in the mixed team final. The pairing of Matthew Fabunmi and Ojo Favour delivered a calm and clinical performance to seal a 2–0 victory on Monday night.
The win was the culmination of a strong tournament showing by the Nigerian team, who overcame Tunisia in the quarter-finals and survived a fiercely contested semi-final against Algeria. Their consistency and resilience proved decisive as they advanced to the final showdown.
Receiving their medals from Nigerian Olympic Committee President Engr. Habu Gumel, the players celebrated a result that underlines Nigeria’s growing strength in youth table tennis. The gold medal stands as a statement of intent from a new generation of Nigerian stars.
