Asagba Receives Asaba Model Transportation Blueprint

Executive Brief Presented at Asagba Council Meeting
THE Asaba Model Transportation Committee, led by Chief Dr. Victor Ony Ijeh, KSM (Adolor Ahaba), has presented an Executive Brief Brochure on a proposed model transport system for Asaba to the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge (SAN, OON), during the Asagba Executive Council meeting held on January 20, 2026.
The presentation formed part of ongoing efforts to develop a sustainable, efficient, and modern transportation framework tailored to the growing needs of Asaba and its environs.
Asagba Commends Committee’s Commitment
Receiving the brochure, HRM Asagba Azinge expressed appreciation to Chief Dr. Ijeh and members of the committee for their dedication and progress so far. The monarch noted that the Model Transportation Committee exemplified the spirit of service demonstrated by all committees he had constituted.
According to the Asagba, the willingness of community members to serve reflected the collective desire of Asaba people to advance the development of their community. He thanked the committee members and other stakeholders for their contributions toward shaping a better future for the city.
The monarch assured the committee that the submitted executive brief would be reviewed promptly, with a view to taking appropriate actions. He also acknowledged the role of Dr. John Oyevbemina Salami, the consultant and technical adviser to the committee, commending his professional input into the process.
Committee Mandates Outlined
Earlier in his remarks, Chief Dr. Victor Ony Ijeh thanked the Asagba for the confidence reposed in him and his team. He outlined the committee’s mandates, which include proposing a structured passenger transportation system for Asaba, regulating tricycle (keke-napep) operations, and recommending the establishment of dedicated bus stops across the city.
Other responsibilities include proposing new and expanded road networks, including flyovers; recommending the introduction of environmentally friendly and cost-effective electric vehicles; and proposing light rail or monorail transport systems within Asaba and surrounding areas.
The committee is also tasked with identifying and designating effective functional roads to enhance traffic flow and urban mobility.
Key Resolutions and Next Steps
Chief Dr. Ijeh disclosed that following extensive deliberations, the committee resolved to prioritise three core areas within its mandate, including structured passenger transport, regulation of informal transport operators, and the designation of dedicated bus stops.
He reaffirmed the committee’s readiness to continue serving the Asagba and the Asaba community, stressing that the proposals were aimed at long-term urban growth, environmental sustainability, and improved quality of life for residents.
