Asagba Of Asaba Withdraws From Anioma State Committee Over Capital, Boundary Disputes

THE Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany C. Azinge, has withdrawn from his role as Chairman of the Technical Committee driving the push for the creation of Anioma State.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Personal Secretary, Ogbueshi Dr. Jude C. Mgbeze, the monarch said his decision takes immediate effect, though he remains firmly committed to the broader aspiration for an Anioma State built around the historically recognised Anioma entity.
HRM Azinge cited “irreconcilable differences” over proposed geographical boundaries and what he described as a “clandestine” attempt to relocate the capital of the proposed state away from Asaba. He warned that such moves threaten the integrity and survival of his kingdom.
“As the Traditional Ruler of Asaba, HRM cannot be seen to preside over the liquidation and decimation of his kingdom,” the statement said, adding that his oath of office compels him to protect the interests and wellbeing of Asaba people at all times.
The Asagba stressed that he would not be part of any process that compromises Asaba’s historical status or undermines its place in the proposed state structure.
