Asagba of Asaba Makes History Again, Institutes Bursary Award For Asaba Students In Tertiary Institutions
100 students of Asaba origin in institutions of higher learning were on Friday gifted ₦50, 000 each as bursary award, courtesy of the Asaba Welfare and Endowment Committee.
20 each were selected for the gesture from the five quarters in Asaba.
Speaking on the occasion, the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, FNIALS, said it was the beginning of the community’s intervention in the welfare of its youths.
He said though ₦50,000 was like a drop of water in the ocean, what mattered most was the spirit behind the gesture, which he disclosed would be an annual affair.
The highly respected King revealed plans for the registration of some candidates for JAMB examination in due course with a view to increasing the number of Asaba children in institutions of higher learning.
The forward-looking traditional ruler also announced that a scholarship scheme would be unveiled in two months’ time for 10 indigents but exceptionally brilliant students to see them through their respective academic programmes.
The Monarch revealed that building the youth of Asaba remained a task that must be done because among them were great men and women who would take over leadership in the future, and assisting them with opportunities to build their capacities through education way one sure way of planning for them to succeed.
His Royal Majesty commended the Welfare and Endowment Committee for being able to generate a data of the students in higher institutions, pointing out the need for them to also have a record of those who would require vocational training, so that they too could be assisted, as everyone must not be a graduate.
