Protecting Critical National Infrastructure
The monarch described the CCTV facility as a strategic intervention that would help combat crime, prevent vandalism and protect vital national infrastructure along the Asaba–Onitsha corridor.
He noted that the project followed closely on the groundbreaking of the Section 2A access road to the bridge, reflecting sustained federal attention to the region.
Gratitude for Expressway Rehabilitation
On behalf of the Asaba community, HRM Azinge thanked the Federal Government for rehabilitating failed portions of the Asaba–Benin Expressway, which he said had caused severe hardship for motorists and residents alike.
He praised Works Minister Engr. David Umahi for demonstrating capacity and resolve in office, expressing confidence that more developmental milestones would be recorded before the end of the administration.
Umahi Details Security Framework
Engr. Umahi disclosed that the Federal Executive Council had approved a ban on sand mining within 10 kilometres of bridges nationwide to safeguard their structural integrity.
He explained that the CCTV centre would be managed by the Delta State Police Command, with officers monitoring activities remotely and responding to incidents within five minutes.
Support Equipment and Federal Oversight
The Minister announced that the police would receive two Hilux vans, a flying boat and ₦3 million monthly for logistics. He assured that federal authorities would closely supervise operations to ensure efficiency.
Updates on Road Construction
Umahi expressed satisfaction with work on the 17.5-kilometre Section 2A bypass, crediting Delta State’s full compensation payments. He also reiterated the adoption of reinforced concrete pavement for federal road rehabilitation.
