A Kano State High Court has ordered the remand of Ogugua Christopher, owner of Asaba Orphanage Home, over the alleged kidnapping and trafficking of more than 600 children from Kano to Delta State.
Christopher and two others — Hauwa Abubakar and Nkechi Odlyne — face a 15-count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping. The alleged crimes occurred between 2016 and 2021.
During Tuesday’s hearing, only Christopher was present. The prosecution, led by Kano Solicitor-General Salisu Muhammad Tahir, sought his remand pending the arrest of the others.
Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu ordered Christopher’s detention in a correctional centre and directed NAPTIP to produce the absent defendants at the next sitting on 27 October.
The case stems from a 2022 petition by PATAMOC, which alleged the disappearance of over 600 Kano children, with only eight later rescued.
