Asaba Monarch Tackles Security, Housing, Unity At Ethnic Dialogue
Dialogue for Development and Cohesion
IN a move to strengthen unity and address pressing urban challenges, the Asagba of Asaba, Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, has held a wide-ranging interactive session with representatives of ethnic communities resident in Asaba.
The engagement provided a platform for dialogue on development priorities, security concerns, and social integration in the rapidly expanding capital city.

Addressing Security Flashpoints
Security emerged as a dominant theme, with concerns raised over emerging flashpoints in satellite areas.
The monarch revealed plans to establish a police post in Ikpoto to curb rising tensions and enhance law enforcement presence. Similar appeals were made for improved security infrastructure in other areas, including Cable.
He emphasised that community-led initiatives remain critical in addressing local challenges.
Land, Housing and Utilities Under Scrutiny
Participants highlighted growing concerns over land disputes, high rental costs, and inadequate access to electricity and water.
In response, the monarch outlined steps to regulate land transactions and curb exploitation by land speculators. He also pointed to ongoing legislative and government interventions aimed at addressing rent and utility challenges.
Healthcare, Sanitation and Urban Planning
The monarch assured residents of improved healthcare services, particularly in underserved areas, with plans to reactivate facilities in the Cable axis.
On sanitation, he disclosed plans for a comprehensive master plan and initiatives to reward clean communities, with possible expansion to satellite areas.
Balancing Diversity and Tradition
While reaffirming Asaba’s openness to all ethnic groups, the monarch stressed the need for cultural sensitivity and respect for local traditions.
He opposed indiscriminate profiling of non-indigenes, advocating instead for structured engagement through recognised community leadership.

Political Alignment and Future Outlook
The Asagba also used the forum to call for political support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sheriff Oborevwori, linking continuity in leadership to sustained development.
The meeting concluded with renewed commitments from community leaders to support peacebuilding efforts and collaborate with traditional authorities in driving development across Asaba.
