APC, PDP, ADC Trade Words Over Nigeria’s Democratic Direction

SPOKESPERSONS of the APC, PDP and ADC have clashed over the state of Nigeria’s democracy, with sharply opposing views on whether the country is drifting toward a one-party system ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Arise Television, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka rejected allegations that the ruling party was undermining opposition parties. He said political defections were a normal feature of democracy and reflected internal failures within opposition parties rather than coercion by the APC. According to him, the ruling party was operating within democratic norms and had no case to answer.
However, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi accused the APC of deliberately weakening opposition parties to create a sense of inevitability about its victory in 2027. He argued that defections to the ruling party were driven by fear and self-preservation, not ideology, and warned that the APC was pursuing a “selective democracy” that undermines political competition.
PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong dismissed claims of internal collapse within his party, insisting its leadership structures remain intact. He said the PDP was rebuilding and challenged those loyal to the ruling party to leave and test their popularity at the polls.
