Anambra First Lady Challenges Senator Ekwunife To Fidelity Oath, DNA Test Amid Political Tension
BY GLORY UGOBA
THE political rivalry between the family of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and Senator Uche Ekwunife has escalated, with the governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, issuing a public challenge to the lawmaker.
In a statement released on Friday, Mrs. Soludo accused Senator Ekwunife of dragging her children into political disputes and making “false and malicious claims.” She demanded a retraction and a public apology within 72 hours, warning of legal consequences if her conditions were not met.
As part of her response, the First Lady challenged the senator to take an oath of fidelity before the Blessed Sacrament, declaring her own willingness to swear that she has remained faithful to her husband throughout their 33-year marriage.
“Since Senator Ekwunife claims to be a Catholic convert, I challenge her for both of us to swear an oath of fidelity and chastity in front of the Blessed Sacrament and the Bible,” Mrs. Soludo stated. “I will swear, with my children present, that in my 55 years, I have known only one man—my husband, Chukwuma Soludo.”
She also proposed that both families undergo DNA testing in three reputable hospitals in London, adding that she would cover all costs. “If the results confirm your husband fathered all your children, I will congratulate you and present you with a cash award,” she said.
Emphasizing her conservative Christian upbringing, the First Lady maintained that she married as a virgin and had never relied on public funds. “My weapons are decency, character, and grace. I am a long-distance runner, and I welcome you to the marathon,” she added.
The dispute follows Governor Soludo’s recent remarks questioning Senator Ekwunife’s academic qualifications, which drew sharp reactions from the lawmaker and has now triggered a counteroffensive from the governor’s wife.
As of press time, Senator Ekwunife has not formally responded to Mrs. Soludo’s latest challenge.
